According to Jewish tradition, this is the site where GOD requested that Abraham sacrifice his son Isaac. Abraham laid his son Isaac on a rock and prepared to sacrifice him, but before Abraham could complete this act, GOD intervened.
The great Temple of Jerusalem was built over this rock, and the Ark of the Covenant was kept in its Holy of Holies.
